One of the most important factors in your success at school is good attendance. To receive passing grades, you should attend regularly and get to class on time.
Attendance is critical for learning. It is the expectation at Porter Middle School and LAUSD that students come to school on a daily basis and are on time to all classes. In addition, students are expected to remain in school all day. Medical appointments should be scheduled after school hours. Students must bring verification of absence, signed by a parent/guardian or doctor’s note.
Emergency information must be on file in the Attendance Office. This card provides the nurse and other offices with names of persons who should be contacted if a student becomes ill or injured. EVERY student must have an emergency card on file. Parents must notify attendance office of change of address and or phone number as soon as possible.
Students will be released only to those adults listed on the emergency card. Proper ID will be required in order to protect the safety of the student.
Counselors are available during the regular school day and by appointment after school. A student must obtain a pass before coming to the Counseling Office. If a counselor is not available, the student should leave a written request. Counselors are available to discuss personal and academic issues.
